On September 1, 1984, a re-creation of several characters from Jim Henson's 1982 film, The Dark Crystal, was presented at the World Science Fiction Convention in Anaheim, California. It was done as a tribute to the wonderfully creative men and women involved with the production of the film, The Dark Crystal, and to Jim Henson, the guiding force behind it.

December 17, 2012 was the 30th anniversary of the release of The Dark Crystal. I thought it appropriate again to honor the creators of the film, and also to provide information on the re-creation project to other fans of the film, many of whom were not able to attend the convention (and some who were not even born yet!)

This site documents the re-creation of the characters, the group presentation, and some surprising events that followed. Click on the links above to see how the characters were re-created, what happened at the presentation, and how I later got to meet Jim Henson.

I ask that you respect the memory of Jim Henson, and the copyright (for the characters and the film) of The Jim Henson Company, as well as that of the photographers whose work is represented here. You can always revisit this site, and the material it contains.
